When Puppyhood Turns Into the Teen Stage…
Just as you’re settling in, something changes. Around 6-12 months, many dogs enter their “teenager phase," testing boundaries, ignoring cues they “knew,” and suddenly acting like they’ve forgotten everything.
This stage is completely normal. But without guidance, it’s also the stage where good habits unravel.
That’s where the Thoughtful Teens Program steps in, the natural continuation of the Mindful Puppy Program.

Hi, I'm Ashlin!
I'm the founder of The K9 Mindset Academy.
I’ve helped countless Fraser Valley families transform their relationship with their dogs, especially those struggling with anxiety, overexcitement, or difficult pasts. What I’ve learned is this: obedience alone isn’t enough. True change comes when a dog learns to regulate their emotions. Once calmness is in place, everything else (obedience, recall, manners) falls into line.
At K9MA, there is no “one size fits all.” Every program is customized to your lifestyle and your dog’s mental, physical, and emotional health. We start with positive reinforcement, then build structure using proven methods of operant conditioning. What we never use is fear, pain, or intimidation.
My role is to guide you in clear, safe communication with your dog, including how to use tools like prongs or e-collars responsibly, if they’re right for your dog. The goal isn’t just training, it’s a healthier, calmer, more connected relationship.

What is the right age for the Mindful Puppy Program?
Puppies under 6 months. We recommend starting as early as possible.
What if my puppy is already older than 6 months?
We will likely move you into the Mindset Reset Program depending on your foundations and behaviors.
How long do I have to complete the program?
Puppy Program must be completed within 4 months. Thoughtful Teen Program expires in 3 months.
Do you travel outside of Abbotsford & Mission?
Yes, however I charge a travel fee.
