About the K9 Mindset Academy
At K9MA, we believe every dog is unique, there is no single “right” way to train and no one-size-fits-all solution. That’s why every program we offer is customized not only to fit your lifestyle but also to prioritize your dog’s mental, physical, and emotional well-being.
Our approach goes beyond simply “training your dog.” We focus on strengthening the way you relate to your dog in everyday life, through mindset, communication, and structured obedience. The goal is always deeper connection, greater clarity, and a stronger bond.
We train on a spectrum, grounded first in positive reinforcement. All foundational skills begin here. Once your dog has a solid base, we expand into the full four-quadrant operant conditioning system. Tools are introduced thoughtfully and only ever as a means of enhancing clear communication, never through fear, pain, or intimidation.
It is my responsibility as your trainer to help you find what works best for both you and your dog. With professional training, hands-on education, and years of experience, I’ll guide you in the safe, humane, and effective use of tools, including prong and e-collars, when appropriate. The result is not just better obedience, but a balanced, confident partnership with your dog.
Meet Ashlin – Founder & Trainer
Hi, I’m Ashlin, the heart behind K9 Mindset Academy. My passion (some might say obsession) for dogs started young. From the time I can remember, I immersed myself in all things canine.
After high school, I followed my love of animals into a career as a Veterinary Technician. When life pulled me into Critical Care Nursing, I gained valuable skills, but I always felt something was missing.
Everything changed in 2019 when I brought home Knox, my German Shepherd. She was reactive, and through working with her, I discovered my true calling. Knox sparked my fascination with canine behavior and taught me firsthand the power of mindset and relationship in training. That experience solidified my purpose: helping owners and dogs thrive together.

Training & Sports with Knox
Beyond professional education, I actively participate in canine sports with my German Shepherd, Knox. Training her has been one of my greatest teachers and joys. Together we’ve explored multiple outlets that challenge her mind, body, and instincts:
-
Disc Dog: Achieved Certified Disc Dog Title, showcasing precision, athleticism, and teamwork.
-
Scent Detection: Earned a Started Title with Special Award, highlighting Knox’s focus and drive in harnessing her natural abilities.
-
Trick Training: Attained Expert Trick Dog Certification, demonstrating creativity, problem-solving, and the bond we’ve built through play.
These experiences allow me to bring real-world, hands-on knowledge into my client training. Competing and titling with Knox has deepened my understanding of motivation, drive, and the importance of meeting a dog’s individual needs, not just in obedience, but in expression, enrichment, and partnership.
