A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME
My name is Ashlin and I am the owner of K9MA. I have always had a passion (some might say obsession) for dogs. I grew up immersing myself in all things dogs. Out of high school, I knew I wanted to work with animals, so I became a Veterinary Technician. When I struggled to make ends meet, I became a Critical Care Nurse, but something was always missing.
In 2019, I brought home my German Shepherd, Knox, who is reactive, and she changed everything for me. I became obsessed with the behavioral aspect of dogs; Ultimately, finding my true passion - building relationships between owners and their dogs through dog training.

I have since completed online courses through multiple reputable trainers including Natalie Dobkins and Denise Fenzi, and have completed my Dog Obedience and Behavior Modification course through The Superior Canine School of Dog Training. I also hold my Certified Trick Dog Instructor certificate and can certify your trick training levels from Novice to Expert. I participate in multiple dog sports recreationally with my own dogs and I am committed to continuously growing as a trainer, owner and human.
TRAINING METHODS
At K9MA we believe that every dog learns differently. There is no one right way to train; There is no “one size fits all”. All training programs are custom to work around your lifestyle, but more importantly, what is best for the dogs mental, physical and emotional health. Rather than "training your dog" we focus on how you relate with your dog on a day to day basis through mindset and obedience. Our goal is to optimize your relationship.
We believe in a spectrum of training from positive methods to what are considered compulsive methods. All foundational training will be built on positive reinforcement. Once the foundation is solid, we use a four quadrant system called operant conditioning. We will never use fear, pain or intimidation to teach your dog.
It is my responsibility as your trainer to assess what training tools will work best for you to most effectively communicate with your dog, which is a crucial piece of the training puzzle. With my professional experience and education in dog training, I will guide you on the safe and proper use of tools including prongs and e-collars.

Mind Ya Biz! Group Sessions
As you may have gathered from the title, the purpose of these groups is to “Mind Your Business”! These groups will focus, not only on obedience, but also engagement with the owner in a distracting environment. We will work under different thresholds, brush up on communication, and drill obedience and heel work under distraction. The goal of these groups is to be able to disengage from external stimuli and engage with the owner through obedience training and strong communication with your dog.
**There is absolutely NO dog to dog interactions**

Mind Ya Biz! Leash Manners Pack Walks
Mind Ya Biz! Trail
Pack Walks
This program is loose-leash walking and leash manner focused.

We will begin our session with 20 minutes of loose-leash drills. This will allow the dogs to recognize the pack mentality and set the tone for our walk. During this time the facilitator will provide instruction, tips and advice. You will then be guided through a busy city trail to practice your leash manners, communication with your dog and engagement under the distractions of the environment.
While this program is for owners of all levels, we do expect that you either have prior training that you are working on or you have been doing your own training with a plan in place to implement. Must follow guidelines provided at time of registration.
This program is focused on leash walking in a structured pack and coexisting

You will then be guided down a gravel trail just outside the city to practice your leash manners, communication with your dog and engagement under the distractions of the environment. This is a great opportunity for reactive dogs to get positive exposures in a structured manner. The dog trainer will have a dog present at this session, so won't be available to assist participants. This means there is a certain level of autonomy required.
While this program is for owners of all levels, we do expect that you either have prior training that you are working on or you have been doing your own training with a plan in place to implement. Must follow guidelines provided at time of registration.
Mind Ya Biz! Group Obedience
Our Most Popular Group Class for Reactive Dogs

This program is stationary commands under distraction focused.
In this session we will work on stationary obedience such as “sit stays”, “down stays’, and “place” command, while remaining engaged with the owner, and under the distraction of the group and the environment. We will have opportunities for group drills, obedience with pylons, and obedience with place beds. We will start with group neutrality drills and move on to station drills!

Due to the nature of this course, it is slightly more advanced as it is stationary vs. in motion. Registrants must have previous training through a trainer or consistently on their own. It is required that you are practicing these skills prior to joining group. Must follow guidelines provided at time of registration.
Mindful Puppies 1:1 Program (<6mths)
This program is perfect for the new addition in your family. We will provide you with a rock solid communication and training foundation. This will set you up for success in all of your future endeavors with your canine companion. We will teach you skills in communication, obedience and leash manners. We will have opportunities to travel to dog-approved stores or trails. All skills taught through positive reinforcement.

E-Collar Implementation Program
This program dedicated to teaching owners how to safely and humanely condition their dogs to an e-collar. E-Collar training is great for enhanced obedience, accountability by reinforcing known behaviors, inhibiting unwanted behaviors and complete off-leash reliability. E-Collars provide clear and precise communication which in turn, leaves you with a confident dog. In this 4 session program, we will teach you how to initiate, condition and maintain e-collar training safely and effectively.
